If one is able to reduce the amount of their daily sugar intake, they may additionally benefit from lower life insurance rates by lowering their chance of heart disease and diabetes.
According to the AHA, effectively reducing one’s risk of the aforementioned diseases can be achieved by women eating no more than 25 grams of sugar per day, netting about 100 calories, and men eating no more than 37.5 grams every day, or 150 calories.
The AHA also reported that a National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2001 to 2004 found that the average American consumed 22.2 teaspoons, or 355 calories, or sugar per day.
"Sugar has no nutritional value other than to provide calories, " said Rachel K.Johnson , Ph.D., an associate professor of nutrition at the University of Vermont in Burlington and lead author of Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association.. "Consuming foods and beverages with excessive amounts of added sugars displaces more nutritious foods and beverages for many people. "
According to CNNMoney, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that the best way to reduce sugar consumption is to eliminate soda from a diet. Additionally, parents should stay away from giving any sugary drinks to children who are six-months-old or younger and then should stick only to juices.
