A recent report in the Cleveland Plain Dealer offers consumers some advice on finding the most reasonably priced health insurance policies available. For example, customers facing unemployment are advised to be aware of their options under COBRA and other state and federal programs.
For private insurance, the newspaper suggests that consumers should determine whether they can afford a higher deductible insurance policy, taking care to factor in any prescriptions and other medical needs. Higher deductible insurance policies tend to cost less.
The report also advises consumers to familiarize themselves with what their current plan and does not cover, and suggests getting a policy that cannot be cancelled if a patient becomes very sick.
Maintaining health insurance coverage is especially crucial when considering how a large proportion of bankruptcies in recent years have been related to a sudden health crisis and high medical bills in general.
