Dating Disasters: Reader Horror Stories Revealed

Valentine's Day.you either love it or hate it. Whether you have a sweetheart or not, we all can appreciate the dating debacles we've experienced on our way to finding the right one. Some of our readers have shared their stranger dating stories and are sure to produce a laugh. See if any of these can top your worst (or best) story:

If First You Don't Succeed, Try and Try Again
I went on a date with this guy one time that had used the pick up line, "You have the softest lips in the world."  Well, not surprisingly, it didn't work out. A few weeks later, a friend of mine called to say that she had met a guy at a party who had used the exact line on her. Sure enough, it was the same guy. She said she just laughed and said, "Dude, get a new line!"

-Maggie, Newport Beach

Group Project Seduction
I was in college working on a group project and my partner came over to my house so we could work on it. After working on the project for about an hour, he went over to my computer and started downloading all these "romantic" songs like John Mayer's, "Your Body is a Wonderland." Then he dimmed the lights and just gave me this crazy look -- I couldn't even believe it! After fidgeting around for a few minutes in disbelief, I told him that was going nowhere and he left. That was the last time we did a group project at my house.

Costly Affection
A couple of years ago I met a great guy. I went out on three dates with him and each time he claimed to have "forgotten his wallet" when the check came. The first time he pulled this stunt, I assumed it was an honest mistake and agreed to go out with him again. The second time he tried the same thing, I was upset but decided to give him one last try because he was so much fun. The final time he started in with the same routine so I got up and walked out -- after calling him cheap loud enough for the entire restaurant to hear!

-Courtney, Denver

Blind Date Bingo
I always avoid blind dates but a few years ago, Valentine's Day was looming and I thought I should at least give it a shot. A friend wanted me to meet her boyfriend's brother so figured it'd be pretty harmless. Ah - no. He showed up to my house an hour late. He seemed a bit "loose" but I just figured he must be nervous. Come to find out, he had been drinking since lunch and proudly announced it to the entire restaurant. This obnoxious behavior continued through dinner with the waiter offering him a cup of coffee after five glasses of wine. Shortly after he left to use the restroom and was gone for some time. Eventually the waiter came to me and said I might need to help my friend in the back. Sure enough, he was passed out under a payphone. That was the final straw - I left. And, I haven't been on a blind date since!

-Christy, San Diego
