New study: 66m could be without insurance in 10 years

Rising healthcare costs could leave millions uninsured and businesses crippled by expenses, says a RWJF study

Health insurance is an ongoing issue that has been at the top of Obama’s agenda both during the election and as he navigates his first year in office.

With many industry experts, physicians, policy makers and consumers voicing their opinion on the coverage and costs associated with health insurance, a new report from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation warns that if federal reforms are not made, healthcare costs for businesses could double within 10 years.

The RWJF report also says that in the same time frame, nearly 66 million Americans could be without insurance assuming worst case scenario conditions. Middle income families are likely to suffer the most, says the group.

Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, RWJF’s president and CEO said, “Without comprehensive healthcare reform, costs will continue to skyrocket, millions more will lose insurance, and the health of Americans will suffer.”

“Congress must act quickly and decisively to make quality health care more affordable and accessible for all Americans,” Lavizzo-Mourey added.
