President Obama addressed the status of the healthcare systems and the need for reform in a letter to two senators taking on a leadership role in reform that will revamp the current health insurance and medical care landscape.
In the letter to Senators Kennedy and Baucus, Obama highlighted the way costs of healthcare and the economy are intertwined - noting that without reform to the former, the latter will continue to suffer.
"Without meaningful reform, one-fifth of our economy is projected to be tied up in our healthcare system in 10 years; millions more Americans are expected to go without insurance; and outside of what they are receiving for healthcare, workers are projected to see their take-home pay actually fall over time," noted the president.
The president urged the senators and the rest of Congress to work on reducing the escalating costs associated with medical care - otherwise affordable health insurance may elude millions of Americans in need of coverage.
