Is a government health insurance company on the horizon?

Rasmussen Reports deliver insight on Americans’ views of healthcare reform

Healthcare and health insurance has been a hot political topic not just during the most recent presidential election, but for many years.

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey reveals some interesting feelings about the nation’s healthcare providers and health insurance plans as well as expectations for future reform in the sector.

The latest poll shows that 34 percent of the nation’s adults consider the health system “fair” while another 30 percent call it “poor.”

Meanwhile, an overwhelming 70 percent of adults with health insurance rate their coverage as “good” or “excellent.”

But with many people unable to afford health insurance, the debate rages on about what type of government involvement is best.

Roughly the same number of people supports the idea of a government health insurance company to compete with private sector firms as those who oppose it. At the same time, 45 percent of Americans surveyed believe that healthcare reform will increase the cost of coverage, says Rasmussen.
