Small business insurance reform is finding its way to the forefront of the national health care debate as more and is saying that reform needs to begin by helping small business owners provide health insurance benefits to their workers at a minimal cost.
According to U.S. Small Business Administration administrator Karen Mills, the attention being paid to "Main Street" during the current healthcare debates across the country is well founded and she is intent on using it to get things done.
"The world has changed, and everyone has realized that it is small businesses that are going to drive the economy and the recovery," Mills told CNNMoney.Com "We're the popular kid at the dance."
In order to promote healthcare reform for small businesses, Mills has been traveling around the country with Federal Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius holding meetings with small business owners. During a recent stop in Hartford, Connecticut both Sebelius and Senator Christopher Dodd (CT-D) supported small business health care reform as well, according to local ABC affiliate WFSB-TV.
Dodd went so far as to use his recent diagnosis with prostate cancer as an example of the importance being afforded health insurance.
"I've got great health care," Dodd said, according to WFSB. "I never worried for a single second that I couldn't pay for it or that I'd get the care. That's not the case for most Americans."
