A law that recently took effect in Texas aims to promote more safety on the road and save lives by keeping track of driving schools and the safety records of the young people that graduate from them.
The law, known as the "Less Tears More Years" act, was signed into law late this summer and will score driving schools based on how many of their students get into crashes their first year on the road.
Teen driver safety is a frequent topic in the news, as evidence by a recent USA Today report which found two separate studies showing that parents can make a greater difference in helping their children avoid mishaps simply by setting rules in a fair and even-handed manner.
Some of the tips offered in the article include limiting the weather conditions a new driver can operate in, and prohibiting passengers from being in a car with the teen for their first several months of operation.
The U.S. government has also examined the issue of drivers schools and how they relate to teen driver safety, with a report available for viewing on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website.
